Artful Tales – July 2021

As the gallery world begins to open, I am working on my solo show coming up in October at Sparrow Gallery in Sacramento. In addition, I also am very pleased and excited to be showing 6 new pieces at Sue Greewood Fine Arts Gallery in Laguna Beach, CA. I am very busy! Also, Open Studio Tours in Sacramento will be happening in September. I post more details as the date gets closer.

Here’s an oil painting in progress. I titled it “Spirit Bear.” These bears are also called Kermode bears and are not considered albinos but a white grizzly bear. Spirit bears hold a prominent place in the oral traditions of the indigenous peoples from three islands in British Colombia.

I am fascinated by albinism which is the lack of melanin and in leucism, where there that is marked by overall pale color or patches of reduced coloring. This occurs in all walks of life. I have often included several of these lovely creatures in my work.
